Outer Web Thought Log

At the crossroads of my split personality

I've been neglecting the English part of my blog so badly that it starts to hurt. As if my interest in techie blogging has evaporated, and if all of my old-time international blog buddies dropped off my radar. Quite the contrary, I must say, though the conversation has diluted in a one-way communication by my own laziness.

The Dutch blogging is a bit more persistent, though I'm annoyed by my bi-lingual blog myself. Three feeds and a bunch of categories in order to allow my audience to subscribe only to stuff relevant for them, with the English feed being updated only once a month: not a very compelling offer for non-Dutch readers.

Plus I feel the need to include some news section (dare I say: blog, since such a section should include comments and trackbacks and tags and other Web20 goodies for maximum effectivity) in our shiny new company website. More stuff that needs writing, but a good way to stay connected with fellow Cocoon- and CMS-istas. And that has always been the idea behind my English blog.

I've been messing around with Typo lately, a blog engine based on the massively over-hyped RoR framework. A single-blog system, I'm afraid, so not likely a candidate for replacing MT at blogs.cocoondev.org. On the other hand, it's a fun little personal blog system, so I'm now slowly converging around the idea of splitting my dual personality across two blogs. Trying to confuse Google and all that. :)

One corporate-ish one, integrated into our company website, and another Dutch one. Maybe I can lure somebody else into co-authoring the English one. As for subjects, all of the photoblogging will be on the Dutch one, I'm afraid. And all the Daisy-related stuff will go into the English one.

(Furthermore, I wonder what to do with blogs.cocoondev.org. But I'll leave that itch for another time.)

This is the plan, at least for now. Now let's see what happens in the real world.

Oh, Dutch readers: don't worry. All of you understand English well enough to understand all of the above. Really, if everybody would be smart like you, and understand Dutch as well as you do, I wouldn't be having this problem right now. :)
