Bladvertising

RoUS wondered why so few people use advertising in their blogs. I decided to give it a try, and look what happened:

Traffic Summary 1 January, 2003 - 9 January, 2003
Unique Visitors 22
Clicks 50
Items Ordered 1

Time to get a marketing executive on-board! I'm going to be filthy rich!

cool! of course, you hung them in the blog entry itself, rather than in the HTML window dressing on the blog page, so people with aggregators saw them as well as people going directly to your site.

interesting. embedding them in the entry probably reached more people in the short term -- but as soon as that entry scrolls off the blog, hits will probably drop dramatically. whereas putting it in the window dressing would probably reach fewer people -- but at a fairly continuous rate.

i'm not sure how to measure these effects. nor, to be honest, what the point would be.

anyway, i hope you get filthy rich. i'll only require a 5% commission for concept injection. :-)

I am very interested in this discussion! Inserting ads into blog entries will need to be automated, based both on the rate of blog entries being added to the weblog, as well as the rate of refreshs for each individual subscriber to teh RSS feed. more notes on my weblog...

Jeremy and Lajos should be happy since it's their Cocoon Developer's Handbook which got ordered ;-)
