Since I'm on a forced leave until the end of the month (and possibly some longer) anyhow, and I'll never reach the Java skills of people I know, I decided to force myself through some Python learning. I acquired (way too) many books, and found a nice introductory text (yep, that's my level of apprenticeship - silly, isn't it?). My incoming book queue so far:
And my book shelves are bursting already... Oh, Ken, these are
associate links - happy now? :-)
You need to check out http://safari.oreilly.com/. Thats what I did about my overburdened bookshelf. Though you should still buy Conrad's cocoon book.. Of course I have to say that. He put a shout out to me. ;-)
I just got _Programming_Python_ as well as _Learning_Python_ for Xmas, and I'm working my way through them. I managed to write a web spider after a few days. As far as Cocoon books go, I own the first two that came out, and I'm waiting on my Amazon order for the new one that just came out.
+1 to Safari.
It's not like you don't have enough books already, but the I found the Python Cookbook a lot of fun last year. Pick a recipe, run it, experiment.
I used the docs at http://www.python.org, Mark Pilgrim's book at http://diveintopython.org, and the David Beazley Python reference. I tried reading the Lutz book but it didn't agree with me...I find the cute-footnote-on-every-other-page thing annoying.
Doesn't help that I'm a cheapskate, either.
re associate links: cool. hey, let us know if you manage to track any revenue coming from them.. :-)
