Russian Film Festival

The Frankfurt Film Museum holds regular film festivals. The Russian film fest is being held between 22-29 October. Last weekend I was lucky enough to catch a Russian film, called the “The Land of the Deaf”. Its basically a film about Russian mafia and vice from the perspective of two young women but with an added twist. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The audience was treated because the director was at hand to answer any questions afterwards. I Look forward to the Italian film festival coming up shortly.

Underground History

This is a pertinent extract from Alex Stigliano's up coming work detailing the underground Sydney Music scene as it was in the 90's

"Formerly of world acclaimed band Bobafet hailing from the hills district of Sydney's affluent Northern suburbs. Michael met the guitar genius of Nick Repole, together they took the Sydney underground music scene to the heights of glory. Never deciding to release an album, considering it 'sucking up to the boorish masses and crawling to the white technocrat capitalist hemogony

Those blessed enough to witness them in their heyday, the heady days of mid 90's Manning Bar hedonism say that 'Nick really sucked man' which in the post Mudhoney backwash of those days was the most esteemed of compliments.

Michael left the band in 1995 amid allegations that he was in love and couldn't play with as much fervor as previously, closing the book on a legendary chapter of Australian rock history. Sources closer to the band claim that he just couldn't play anymore, experiencing an early case of Linux box building mania he just couldn't find the time to do his hair properly before venturing on stage. The resulting hair mooshing and over***ed appearance in those sad late days of the band can be witnessed in countless bootlegged videos. His belated christening by the University of Sydney Arts intelligencia as 'You Am I Boy' a sad parody of a once highly respected bass god."

China on orbit

Historic day: China becomes only the third nation on earth to independently put a "man in space". China’s entry into this exclusive club is well over due. Its about time somebody gave the Americans and the Russians are run for their money.

Another interesting aspect to all this is that Taikonaut: Yang Liwei, will be the first solo space flyer space since 1969. God Speed Mr Yang!

Apache Cocoon Conference in progress

Ghent, Belgium.Cocoon conference underway! We have already had some inspirational presentations including one comparing the concept of Cocoon pipelines to "Fugues" in classical Music. Really interesting stuff. Presentations such as this, plus the sheer number of people that have showed up to this event, really demonstrate the diversty, depth and strengh of the Cocoon community. If your not here you are really missing out.

Currently we have Michael Wechner presenting Lenya: CMS with Cocoon!
