W3C's WSEC @ Boston / Communism

The Workshop on Web of Services for Enterprise Computing got off to a great start with a lot of familiar faces (Steve Vinoski, Mark Nottingham, Dave Orchard, Noah Mendelsohn, Rich Salz, Glen Daniels, Chris Ferris, Paul Downey, Hugo Haas, Philippe Le Hégaret, Eric Newcomer etc and a few new faces (for me!) - Mark Baker. Unfortunately i missed the afternoon session for my Citizenship test and will miss tomorrow because of a customer engagement. Hopefully Jonathan Marsh and Glen Daniels will hold down the fort tomorrow :)

One question asked by the DHS officer threw me off for a second..."Were you ever a member of a communist party"? Throw back from the McCarthy days is my guess. Towards the end, the DHS officer had trouble with his desktop when searching for a location, i took a peek at the monitor and saw an extra comma in the search field ("Boston,") and we had a good laugh about it as i told him what i did for a living.

Keeping tabs on Axis2 in the blogosphere using Yahoo Pipes

How does one keep up with the conversations about one's project/product? I've noticed that there isn't any single blog search engine that can find all the latest chatter about Axis2. So here's what i did. I used Yahoo Pipes to mashup feeds from Technorati, Feedster, Google BlogSearch and Bloglines, then sort by unique titles and date. Here's the result:

Click on the subscribe link on that page to subscribe to a feed that you can place on your firefox toolbar.

Do you want to know how i did it and how the pipe is constructed. Here's how:

Yes, Yahoo Pipes is great! But what's the big deal? It's an extension of what ETL tools have been doing for years. Example, I was managing a product at CA where we had very similar GUI mapping tool expect it was WIN32 based. See screenshot and info here:

http://www3.ca.com/Files/DataSheets/adv_data_transformer_ds.pdf

Heck, Just before i quit CA to start WSO2, we had enhanced the product to accept Plain ol' XML and Web Services (WSDL) as input sources, use web services to write custom transformations and one could even expose any built data transformation into a Web Service. CA even applied for patents (http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2006096683 and http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2006096667).

So what am i really trying to say...Been there, done that :) Guess Pipes is ETL 2.0 :)

All Hani needs is...

When my wife heard about the brou-ha-ha. She said - "All Hani needs is Love". So, next time you see him at a conference or somewhere, please give him a hug.
