Fresh powder.
Taken just above our village of Vignogn in Switzerland, on the walk between Vignogn and Vella, in Obersaxen.
Even to a surfer it looks amazing! :)

If you have a BlackBerry and a Mac it's been a pain up to keep both devices synchronised since the default Blackberry software requires integration with your Exchange server and Windows machine.
Last week thnough at MacWorld, Information Appliance Accessories announced that they would be giving their PocketMac for Blackberry away for free. Fantastic news.

Mountain Sunsets

Taken just as the sun was setting over Vignogn, Lumnezia, Switzerland, while skiing inbetween Christmas and New Years with my Dad, Kristin and some friends of ours.
The weather in Vignogn was outstanding, clear blue skies every day, and lovely powder snow just waiting to be raced down each morning.
The ski lifts run from a town called Vella, which is a few villages away from Vignogn, and provides access to all kinds of runs all over the Obersaxen mountains, down both sides and up to several peaks above 3000m.
We spent as much time as we could skiing (Dad was snowboarding and mountain walking), and just taking in the breathtaking views into the valleys with peaks raised high into the skies on either sides.
The photo above was taken while on a mountain walk between Vignogn and Vella, when the sun was just about to disappear down the other side of the mountain for the night.
"...On December 3, 2005, Ruby and Python developers from Chicago and vicinity gathered at DePaul University to hear two of the leaders in rapid Web-application development debate the merits of each other’s frameworks..."
If you haven't yet, download and have a look at the Snakes & Rubies talk from David and Adrian. It's quite a cool and interesting talk about Django and Ruby on Rails, not from a competitive angle but from the perspective of how the two frameworks came to exist in the world dominated by Java, .NET and PHP, etc.
I found it interesting to hear David's talk about Ruby and domain specific languages (in particular the demonstration of how ActiveRecords melts into the language proper), the beauty of Ruby, and the conversational style Q & A in the last hour of the video where David and Adrian answer random questions from the audience and web world.
Great stuff!

Dad & Snow!

The past couple of weeks have been great with my Dad visiting us for Christmas and New Years Eve. Dad arrived on the 18th December and was here until the 7th January.
During his visit we travelled around Frankfurt, visited Munich (in the photo above, just in front of the Glockenspiel), travelled to a village near Weimar for Christmas, Skii'd between Christmas and New Years in Switzerland, and visited Prague during the first week of January. Photos coming soon.
The trip was action packed with lots of things seen and done. It was great having him over and I look forward to more travels in the near future! :)

Andy Caldecott, a rider competing in the 2006 Dakar Rally, was killed today during a terrible crash during the 599km stage 9 of the rally from Nouakchott to Kiffa in Mauritania.
Andy Caldecott was from Keith, Australia, and was a personal friend of our family, in particular my parents, from Mount Gambier. We mourn the loss of this terrific Australian sportsman.
