Eclipse 3.0 Released!

After many months of development, Eclipse 3.0 final has been released.

Eclipse 3.0 rocks severely, with many improvements and new features beyond those in 2.1. For a full list of what's new check out the 'new and noteworthy' pages.

Many of these features have been in development and testing during the milesone releases - some of the more recent 'rocking' features include 'CVS commit sets', SWT dual monitor support, cheat sheets, SWT embedded HTML widget, CVS SSH2 support, source & comment folding, quick refactoring menus over elements, plus heaps more! :)

Saechsische Schweiz!

koenigstein.png

Last weekend we went to Koenigstein in the Saechsische Schweiz, which is 50kms south of Dresden, near the Czech Republic border. It's a really beautiful area, a part of Germany with lots of lucious green mountains and valleys. On Koenigstein there's also a large Castle (Festung Koenigstein) that overlooks the village.

Koenigstein was also one of the towns damaged by the floods in Germany several years back. In the pension where we stayed there was a marker on the side of the building showing where the water line was (11 meters high!), and with lots of photos of the damage that was done.

The photo above was taken from the Festung overlooking Koenigstein itself.

Java/C++ performance

Slashdot recently had a post about this article comparing Java's performance against C++. Quite interesting, especially the conclusion about using the server VM.

Blue Man Group!

I'll be travelling up to Berlin at the end of the month once again, this time to see the Blue Man Group. The Blue Man Group are a group of esoteric musicians who've put together a dazzling show with many visual effects, imagery, and top rock music. They're also known for their creation of new instruments (eg. the PVC piping one from the Intel advertisement), and use of traditional instruments in strange ways ;)

I've already seen them once at Luxor when I was in Las Vegas a few easters back, and the show was awesome. I'm really looking forward to this one! :)
