Arrived safe and sound in Adelaide airport yesterday around mid-day. Unfortunately there was some 'engineering issue' with the aircraft wing which held us up for 2 hours before we could depart Frankfurt (in computer terms 'engineering issue' could mean absolutely anything :) ), but once we started the journey everything was ok.
Total time in transit was around 26 hours this time, and I can definitely feel it today with the jetlag. Yesterday I managed to stay awake most of the day, but when I finally went to bed I slept for a *long long* time..
The weather in Adelaide is beautiful, it's 35 degrees today (celcius) and clear blue skies which is quite hot for March. By comparison Frankfurt was around 0-2 degrees when I left. You can imagine the difference :)
Tomorrow I'll be driving down to Mount Gambier, the town where I was born and then on Monday I'll be heading further east back across to Melbourne where the apartment hunting will begin. If I can find a way to fit my surfboard in my car (almost mandatory) tomorrow will by my first time back in the water since May last year - man I'm looking forward to that! :)
In the past my trips to Australia have been with a feeling of jubilation almost as a foreign tourist on holidays. This time it's mixed with emotions after leaving Frankfurt with a sense of permanency, but the excitement has been building the more I think about what it was like in Australia before I headed across to Germany, there's a lot of little things I'm looking forward to experiencing and rediscovering.
It certainly feels like a change. :)
